This worked for changing my mail's screen name, but it might just work with your email address settings as well. When I reopened the mail app on my mac, the information was changed automatically. Next I quit the mail app just to be sure and changed the information to the way I'd liked it to be. I changed the information from to the exact same information in the mail app (to synchronise them again, or at least try that). I opened preferences (left bottom of the screen) and noticed my information in the mail app was different from my information. Mail app launches but crashes every time I do click either on any Inbox or any message. First issue: I have 3 mail accounts (iCloud and another two, but no Google Mail).

I checked the box again and opened my mail using in my browser. I made a fresh Sierra PB installation on a SSD drive on my Mac Pro 2010. First thing you can try is to uncheck that box and see if you're able to save changes. When checked, it uses the information from for your mail application. Irrespective of the Email client, Apple Mail can be set to automatically download and display images. When you go to Preferences > Accounts > iCloud and select the "advanced" tab, on the top you'll notice a box that says "automatically detect and maintain account settings". For the record, I tried to change my screen name. When I tried to save changes to the "iCloud IMAP" account, the preferences window would just not respond at all. If it helps, my MacBook has a 2.2 GHz i7 and 16Gb of RAM. But I hate having to log into iCloud on my browser to send messages from my iCloud account, and not being able to save any changes to Mail is very annoying (no matter how many times I force quit the app or try to change other settings - they always fail to save and stay on the same screen). Mail is still responding, and I can do everything else if I ignore the permanently open Preferences panel. What I did was go into Preferences > Accounts > My iCloud account and changed the email address from an extension to the extension I normally use After this, I tried exiting the preferences to save the changes, and the expected "Save changes to the "iCloud" IMAP account?" message came up, but when I click Save, nothing happens. The problem started when I noticed that my iCloud account could no longer send mails as only as (I've never actually sent mails that way.). A hard reset should be done in cases where the device is being too stubborn, and a normal restart is not doing the job of activating airdrop for proper functioning. It's a mid-2014 15" Retina MacBook Pro running 10.11. In Mails Preferences window, click on the Accounts tab, then your account, then the Server Settings tab, and uncheck Automatically manage connection settings. Then press and hold the wake/sleep button and continue to hold the switch off button even after the screen blanks. Since I updated to El Capitan, I haven't been able to save settings changes in Mail on my Mac.
